The Role of the School Board

Board members are the overseeing body of the schools. Their responsibility as elected officials is to represent the student needs and the resident taxpayer. School board members need to ask questions, make inquiries and direct the superintendent and treasurer in carrying out the wishes of the public. The superintendent and treasurer handle all day to day operations.

It is the board’s responsibility to make sure that our students are getting the best education possible at the best possible price. Sometimes boards have taken the easy way out by throwing money at a situation and asking for increased levy’s rather than making the difficult choices by asking questions and seeking other methods.

If the board just lets the administration take over, then those members on the board are not doing the job as the representative of the public in carrying out their wishes.
